Wonder

by R.J. Palacio

August is just a typical kid, except for his severe face deformity, which he describes as much worse than anything you have visualized.  After being homeschooled for his entire life, he is beginning middle school at a local NYC prep school.  How are kids going to react to August?  Follow August and his family’s ups and downs as he begins middle school.  A truely heartwarming story of selfdiscovery, tolerance, acceptance, and change.

Each Kindness–Historical People

April 16, 2013

Day 4:  Think about a time in HISTORY that a person did something kind for someone.  Remember this doesn’t have to be something HUGE.  The smallest kindnesses sometimes make the biggest difference!  Complete the three questions on your graphic organizer.

  • What did the historical figure do?
  • Why did they do it?
  • How did it change something for the person who received the kindness?

You may choose a person from the list below, or you can come up with your own person.  Use an online encyclopedia to look up your person.  Be sure to answer the three questions above.

  • Abraham Lincoln
  • Andrew Carnegie
  • Bill Gates
  • Clara Barton
  • Eleanor Roosevelt
  • George McGovern
  • George Washington
  • Ghandi
  • Harriet Tubman
  • Martin Luther King Jr.
  • Miep Gies
  • Milton Hershey
  • Mother Theresa
  • Princess Diana
  • Sacagawea
